As a continuing celebration of the Society's 75th Anniversary, Swedish-American Historical Quarterly is getting an update!
Big changes are in store for our journal this year. In 2024, the Swedish-American Historical Quarterly is becoming Swedish-American Studies, and will be published on an annual basis through the University of Minnesota Press, while continuing to serve as the journal of the Swedish-American Historical Society. This has been a dream that the Society’s publications committee, board members, and editors have been working toward for many years, and builds upon the recent improvements that have been made to the journal, such as introducing options for formal peer review and expanding our network of academic contributors in Sweden and across North America.
We are committed to maintaining the same level of content per year, yet in a higher quality academic annual format, as well as an expanded digital presence that will reach more scholars around the globe. We are proud of the fact that our journal has been in continuous publication since 1950 and this transition aims to expand rather than diminish that storied legacy.
We hope our readers will share our excitement as we anticipate volume 75 of Swedish-American Studies in autumn of 2024!
Swedish–American Historical Quarterly
One of the most valued benefits of membership in the Swedish–American Historical Society is receiving the Quarterly publication. The Swedish–American Historical Quarterly is a peer-reviewed academic journal published continuously since 1950 by the Swedish–American Historical Society. The title of the journal was the Swedish Pioneer Historical Quarterly from 1950 to 1983.
Full of historic illustrations and substantial articles by researchers, noted authors, and leading academics, the Swedish–American Historical Quarterly documents and interprets the Swedish–American presence in North America. The Quarterly is published four times a year, in January, April, July, and October.
Swedish–American Archives of Greater Chicago
Back issues of The Swedish-American Historical Quarterly have been digitized and are available online thanks to a generous grant from the Barbro Osher Pro Suecia Foundation. The collection is fully searchable and is maintained by the Swedish–American Archives of Greater Chicago (SAAGC).
